Their style is deeply rooted in the classic jazz tradition, but with a playfulness that keeps the music fresh and fun. Their arrangements are unique and inventive, always seeking a new approach to everything they do.
The talent of Francis Covan at the violin and Francis Tétu at the guitar is highlighted on this new album . Together, they don’t hesitate to surprise us with their interpretations of popular songs of Félix Leclerc and Leonard Cohen. In addition, they inspire us with their performance of jazz standards by Duke Ellington, Porter and Bechet .
Originally from Belgium, Francis Covan is a multi-instrumentalist. His prowess with the violin, accordion and guitar are heard around the world. He has worked with Le Cirque du Soleil on two productions (1994-1996 Allegria / Les chemins invisibles 2009-2010) He has also worked as a musician and arranger with several artists such as Lara Fabian, Isabelle Boulay, Daniel Lavoie, Claire Pelletier, Michel Rivard, Marie Michèle Desrosiers, Bori and Gilles Vigneault.
Prolific jazz and pop guitarist, Francis Tétu’s professional debut at the Montreal Casino Cabaret allowed him to open for Paul Anka and Alain Choquette just to name a few. He toured with several artists such as Edith Butler, Marie Michèle Desrosiers, Jean-Marc Parent, Kim Richardson, Vincenzo Thoma and Gildor Roy. Nowadays, Francis is a regular at Montreal’s International Jazz Festival whether it’s with the Quintet Guy Nadon, Barbara Secours, Nathalie Albert or Montreal Dixie.
With the album, Club Manouche, 2Francis will breathe new life into jazz standards, revisit old-time favourites and give a boost to Canadian classics.
